Nokia's 808 PureView really impressed us with the news of its huge 41-megapixel image sensor, but there have been a few details about the smartphone and how it's being released that have left us wanting. The choice to go with Symbian isn't going to rub everyone the right way, and despite the operating system's merits, it's hard to convince users of other platforms to just abandon all they know and adopt a less popular one. The good news there was that Nokia's suggested that we'll eventually see the same tech in its Windows Phone hardware, although just when that might be is anyone's guess. The other major sticking point has been that the 808 hasn't been scheduled for arrival in the United States. As it turns out, it looks like we could end up getting the phone after all, even without carrier subsidies.
In an interview earlier this week, Nokia's US President Chris Weber spoke to PC Magazine. During the course of the discussion, Weber revealed that the 808 will in fact be sold in the US, fully-unlocked. Weber specifically mentioned frequency support for AT&T, but with AWS as well, the 808 should also work just fine with T-Mobile 3G.
Based on what we know about international pricing, you should expect the 808 to sell for about $700.
