Forget about having dual microphones. Slashgear has been able to confirm that the Nokia Lumia 920 sports 3 special High Amplitude Audio Capture microphones, just like the Nokia 808 Pureview, which allows it to capture very soft and very loud audio while making video recordings which are much closer in fidelity to human hearing, perfect to record that rock concert while also recording the low-light video stream in 1080p.
HAAC is explained below:
“To cope with high sound pressure levels, Nokia has developed together with microphone suppliers a new microphone concept (High Amplitude Audio Capture) that can capture high sound pressure levels with perceptually no distortion to the audio. It is capable of recording up to 140 dB and higher Sound Pressure Levels, while that commonly used digital microphones can only reach 120 dBSPL without heavy distortion. As high amplitude audio levels are tolerated, there is no need to limit the frequency response. Hence full audio bandwidth to match to human hearing capabilities can be provided when capturing with HAAC microphones”
The Nokia Lumia 920 continues to deliver in terms of technology, making it for once a Windows Phone that can measure up feature to feature with the best of Samsung and Apple.
Update: For those that are sceptical, the presence of the microphones are confirmed inNokia’s 920 and 820 data sheets. The 920 has 3, while the 820 has two.
Nokia received a lot of criticism for not announcing any price or delivery date for their new range of Windows Phone 8 smartphones.
In the German market things are moving along much faster however, answering many of the questions that were left hanging 2 days ago.
WPArea.de reports that two German online retailers are both taking pre-orders for the Nokia Lumia 820 and Nokia Lumia 920, with the 820 costing 449 Euro and the 920 599 Euro.
More interestingly one of the retailers, Cyberport, is listing the delivery date as around the 18th October 2012, meshing with the “middle of October” rumours we heard earlier. This is around 2 weeks earlier than the rumoured US launch data, again very similar to the usual Windows Phone launch pattern, which sees handsets arrive in Europe in October and November in USA.
As an aside, Nokia is also doing its best to keep Nokia Lumia 800 and 900 sales going, by offering free Nokia Play 360° speakers with each purchase between 7th September and 31st October.
JD Power’s quarterly customer satisfaction survey results are out, and at first glance it may not read like the best news for Nokia. Dig a bit deeper under the surface however and it is clear that Windows Phone’s excellent customer satisfaction numbers is pushing the Nordic company higher and higher in the ranks.
Nokia’s customer satisfaction numbers for their smartphones improved from 702 to 763, a massive 41 points, much more than anyone else on the table, and overall a 9% increase on their previous performance.
It pays to bear in mind Nokia’s numbers are a combination of their Symbian and Windows Phone numbers. Unfortunately JD Power will not release the detailed breakdown of the numbers (we did ask), but a bit of sleight of hand does let us extract a rough estimate.
In March 2012 there were 1.56 million Nokia Symbian Windows Phones in USA (according to Comscore), and only a few Nokia Lumia 710 phones sold on T-Mobile, which we are choosing to ignore for the moment. This resulted in a score of 702.
In July 2012 there were 1.48 million Symbian phones, and probably around 600,000 Nokia Windows Phones (based on Nokia’s smartphone shipments to US in Q2 2012). Assuming Nokia’s Symbian customer satisfaction numbers remained static (a relatively safe assumption) we can see that to reach a Nokia customer satisfaction score of 763 their Lumia 900 handsets must have scored around 914, well above the 849 of the iPhone.
Now if Nokia sold less Lumias the customer satisfaction score for those handsets would have to be even higher to bring the overall score up that much, leading to the truism that Lumia owners just love their Windows Phones.
Official press photos for the Nokia Lumia 920 for the first time shows examples of such notifications, with notifications for a Skype and AP app both showing up, in addition to the email notifications.
The Nokia Lumia 920 has more tricks up its sleeve, according to a report bySlashGear. If their sources are correct, the Lumia 920 may well be sporting high quality Rich Recording microphones to compliment the PureMotion HD+ display and PureView camera technologies. PureSound, anyone?
We believe the Pureview Camera will be a solid performer based on two things, specification and personal observations. On paper the Lumia 920's Pureview Camera has a 8.7mp camera that is fitted with a 28mm f2.0 lens. The sensor is a BSI sensor that has the wiring behind the receptors to allow for more light to hit the sensor. The optical housing is stabilized by a series of springs that allows for more stable operation when using slower shutter speeds. Having used similar technology on other devices and based on my experience as a photographer, all these elements combined gives the Pureview Camera the potential to be a better low light performer than other smartphone cameras.
There is always a chance that what is on paper doesn't translate as successful in real life. There is always a possibility that the Pureview Camera could fall flat on it's front element but we've seen it up close and personal in action and the performance quality is there.
I had to raise an eyebrow when Nokia apologized and admitted the footage was a simulation of what the Pureview Camera could do. Based on all that I know, I discounted the critics and felt the videos and stills were legitimate. The performance and quality results made sense. Then I remembered that most advertisements are simulations to grab your attention and it's not that uncommon.
With the Lumia 920's Pureview Camera we know that it has the potential based on the specifications and we have a two reliable sources who have witnessed it's performance. That's enough for me to cut Nokia some slack for a bad ad decision and still believe that we'll see a fantastic camera on the Lumia 920.
Yesterday we saw a whole heap of information presented by Nokia covering hardware and services, with so much to get through some things were only touched upon. One such area was of Nokia’s plans for maps and directions. We’d previously covered Nokia’s goal to maintain leadership in location so this segment was of great interest.
During the keynote a much clearer insight into their plans for their location based apps coming in Windows Phone 8 was provided, and we think there will be some exciting advances heading to the platform. Indoor Maps, tighter integration of their current mapping apps and augmented reality improvements are all on the way.
Last night during Nokia’s par-tay we managed to check out their little photo challenge area. In short, they literally had a cubby hole in a brick wall where you could mosey on up with your smartphone, snap a pic and then Nokia would do the same with the Lumia 920.
Of course the Lumia 920 is better positioned to win such a contest, after all it has everything: lens stabilization, a larger BSI sensor, F/2.0 aperture and some funky Nokia algorithms to top it all off. And indeed, challenge after challenge we saw the 920 crush any phone that attempted the feat—iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S3—all were smoked.
With the disappointing news that T-Mobile Germany will only be carrying the Nokia Lumia 820, WPApps.de does also bring some good news.
Vodafone Germany rep spokesman Thorsten Höpken has confirmed to them the carrier will be offering both the Nokia Lumia 820 and crucially the Nokia Lumia 920 also.
A recent survey of 2,371 American smartphone owners by CouponCodes4u.com provided some pretty good news for Nokia.
According to the survey up to 48% of smartphone owners would consider switching to a Nokia Lumia 920. For 35% the features were tantalizing, and 13% would be convinced by the price, if low enough.
The numbers are startlingly good, considering in another survey only 22% of Android owners and 38% of Blackberry owners were planning to buy an iPhone 5.
Those interested were attracted by the screen’s ability to detect touch even while a user is wearing gloves (61%), the PureView photo system’s ability to take better quality photos (52%), the colours (around 33%), the off-line maps (around 25%) while others were tempted by the PureMotion HD video option, wireless charging and docking feature, and ClearBlack option for dimming or brightening the main screen.
39 percent of respondents had an iPhone,31 percent had an Android-powered phone , while 29 percent had a BlackBerry device.
"2012 is shaping up to be a year where the giant mobile tech companies battle it out for consumers’ loyalty and, most importantly, their money," Mark Pearson, chairman of CouponCodes4u.com, said in a statement. "With no less than six brand new phone devices scheduled to be released in the next couple of months, consumers are quite spoiled for choice in terms of phone spec, design and branding. The latest offering from the Nokia team looks quite promising and should be an interesting alterative to Android and Apple run devices."

Apple underwhelms with the iPhone 5. Here's why the Nokia Lumia 920 is better.
Let's compare
By comparison, the really thin Samsung ATIV S is 8.7mm thick and weighs in at 135g. Of course the simply massive 2300mAh battery on board makes up for that in our opinion. The Lumia 920, meanwhile is a monster, coming in at 185g and 10.7mm thick.
So if you want small and nimble, yes, the iPhone 5 is your choice and let’s not deny the fact that many people do prefer small, thin phones.
But it was the rest of the news that made the presentation, soporific. That’s because Apple either didn’t reveal anything new or what they did say was quite unexciting.
For instance, the in-cell display is neat—they put the touch sensitive components within the display directly, making it super thin. But it’s not Nokia’s Super-sensitive display. That means you have to take your gloves off to use it. That's sooo early 2012.
That's a killer commercial right there for Nokia: Show someone wearing their gloves while using the Lumia 920. Next, have the iPhone 5 with someone mashing their gloved phalanges on the screen in frustration. Sold.
What’s more, Nokia’s PureMotion HD+ has a 60Hz refresh rate, making it “blur free” and the fastest display on a phone. Throw in ClearBlack for super saturated colors, 4.5” inches in size and a massive 332ppi that dwarfs the iPhone 5 and we know the winner.
But that didn’t stop Apple from exclaiming, "This is the world's most advanced display and I couldn't be prouder of it."
Sorry, but bullshit.
Next up was the camera. Here, Apple could have snuck in some new tech that none of us would have predicted. But no they gave users an updated iPhone 4S camera--a very solid camera—but not ground breaking. With an F/2.4 lens, BSI sensor and an improved chipset, the iPhone 5 will be good but it's not pushing the boundaries.
Nokia though has an F/2.0 camera (more light for the sensor, more ‘bokeh’ blur), 1/3” BSI sensor and optical-image stabilization (OIS) with that last one being a first for a smartphone. Toss in Nokia’s algorithms plus Scalado’s software and in terms of raw specs, Nokia crushed Apple.
Yes, we need to do side-by-side comparison, but any photographer worth their salt would reach for the Nokia’s PureView camera over the iPhone 5 just based on specs.
Even on battery life and talk-time, Apple did not fair so well. Talk time over 3G is just 8 hours versus the 10 hours claimed by Nokia. When it comes to standby time, it’s even worse: Apple – 225 hours versus Nokia at 400.
The new iPhone 5. Not bad but not great.
Where Apple wins
Apple of course does win a few areas—super thin, super light, as mentioned above. They also announced a pre-order date (September 14th), shipping date (September 21st) and of course prices starting at the regular $199 and up.
For many, that’s a huge win for Apple as they always out do their competition that way. And while it would have been nice for Nokia to do the same, the fact of the matter that probably won’t happen. Ever. Microsoft makes the software, OEMs make the hardware and carriers have to sell it. To get all three of those to line up to make global availability announcements is just too hard, especially since Windows Phone 8 has not been RTM’d (released to manufactures aka final build).
The fact is, Samsung, HTC, LG, Huwaei etc. all play by those rules on Android and Windows Phone too. Sure, it’s not ideal but Nokia is not the exception here—Apple is. And Apple can do this for two reasons (1) they strong-armed carriers, who will never allow that to happen again and (2) they have the clout to demand things.
Having said that, look for a November release for Nokia.
Nokia's PureMotion HD+ is real innovation
Where Apple loses
Excitement. There, we said it. The new iPhone 5 with its longer look is not that sexy, to be honest. And the new features, including no NFC, did not cause us to have a ‘wow’ moment.
Maybe that’s too much to ask from Apple. Not every Pink Floyd album can be Dark Side of the Moon, right? But Apple has set the bar for magical technology and the iPhone 5 failed to impress.
Lower pixels-per-inch (PPI) on the display, smaller display, worse battery life, mediocre camera specs, slower display refresh-rate. And you can't wear gloves while using it.
Will it be a nice phone? Oh of course, we’re not knocking that. But will the media and fans be impressed with this when it is eventually put up against the Lumia 920 (or even other high end Android devices)? Probably not.
The fact of the matter is Nokia showed that their research & development team has a lot more up their sleeve than Apple and Nokia is just getting started.
The Take Away
The iPhone 5 will sell well and will be reviewed well but it’s losing its power to impress, to set the bar for technology. It's starting to feel old. For the first time, competitors have a real chance to blow Apple and we’re excited to say that the Lumia 920 is leading that charge.
wpcentral
Now when it comes to specs, everything changes. HTC has brought some very competitive phones here, but the Nokia Lumia 920 is hard to beat when it comes to specs. Surely we love that HTC brought the same Super LCD 2 that we admire about the One X. We also like the fact that they pushed pixels-per-inch to a whole new level with the 8X at 341PPI. The problem is that Nokia went beyond with their capacitive display technology allowing you to operate the phone with gloves. The same goes for the camera where Nokia’s specs are far superior with their new PureView optical stabilization. POCKETNOW
Despite sporting the sharpest 4.3 inch screen on the market, with an astounding 341 DPI, a built-in audio amplifier and probably the best front-facing camera, not to mention the fasters rear camera, it seems HTC’s new Windows Phone 8 flagship has failed to impress.
In our poll, which collected nearly 3000 votes, the Nokia Lumia 920, which brings several innovative features the the table has been shown to be the clear preference of our readers, with more than 86% of the vote. Both the Samsung ATIV S and the HTC 8X gathered less than 7% of the vote.
Nokia is already believed to have sold 75% of Windows Phones sold in Q2 2012, and if the poll is any indication this share of the Windows Phone market will only increase.
This level of dominance of course presents a problem to Microsoft’s multi-OEM strategy, but in Nokia’s case is well deserved due to not only being committed to the platform, but also delivering both in terms of support and innovation. Wmpoweruser
Sure, Nokia's recently announced Lumia 920 runs Windows Phone 8, but its banner feature is actually the PureView camera, which in some ways seems more capable than that of its 808 sibling. Company reps were on hand at the Carl Zeiss booth at Photokina demonstrating this latest handset's low-light abilities -- which are quite striking. Just as impressive, however, is the device's heralded stabilization feature, which captures an impressively smooth clip even with exaggerated hand shake. Considering the degree to which the Nokia rep was shaking, users with steadier hands shouldn't have any issue capturing excellent quality video. We were unable to view the clip on a computer, so our impressions are only based on what we saw on the LCD, but the feature was impressive nonetheless. We'll of course need to reserve formal judgement until we can conduct our own tests, but this PureView preview was certainly convincing, and quite encouraging -- especially the side-by-side clip comparing the 920 to a "US-based manufacturer's" smartphone. Catch it in full in the hands-on video after the break.
Apple CEO Tim Cook lied in front of hundreds of tech bloggers and journalists around the world that iPhone 5 has the “world’s most advanced display”. Here is the comparison of Nokia Lumia 920 display against iPhone 5 display which shows Lumia 920 trumps iPhone in every possible way. Apple’s reality distortion field is growing day by day to unacceptable levels. And Apple is trying to suffer users in the name of competition, replacing Google Maps with Apple Maps is one such thing. wmpoweruser
When comparing the upcoming Nokia Lumia 920 specs sheet with the other latest smartphone such as Samsung Galaxy S III or Apple iPhone 5, people criticized about the thickness of Lumia 920. Even though the numbers look big when comparing against its competitors, Lumia 920 is slimmer than Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900. Its just 10.7 mm thick and the reason behind this thickness must be the camera sensor within it. As you can see in the image above, the camera sensor unit is almost 7mm thick.
This camera module packs Carl Zeiss optics, Optical Image Stabilization, 26mm Focal Length, F2.0 aperture, true 16:9 sensor, BIS and 8.7MP which allows us to take truly amazing photos and videos in any conditions. I think the thickness of the device was justified by Nokia by the features it embodies within it. Other than the camera, Lumia 920 has Wireless charging functionality, Pentaband LTE, NFC, 2000 mAh battery, PureMotion HD+ Display and the ever lasting Polycarbonate unibody design. cnet
You asked for it and so we're delivering. This morning you hopefully read our comparison between the top-three flagship devices with Windows Phone 8. That would be the Samsung ATIV S, HTC 8X and the Nokia Lumia 920--all of which are fantastic phones. Which hero device with Windows Phone 8 will be yours? (Poll Closed)
UKMobileReview have posted a detailed review of the new maps on the iPhone 5 and all iPhones which upgraded to iOS6 vs Nokia Maps as found on Windows Phone.
The new Apple Maps app offer turn-by-turn navigation, satellite view, 3D mode and traffic information, which should have been an improvement over the Google Maps which they replaced.
A furore has however erupted over the quality and deficiencies of the Maps and UKMobileReview has looked into these issues in detail.
They split their review into five sections – Standard view, Satellite View, Online vs Offline, Navigation and Experience and rated each section out of 10.
For the Standard view they found Nokia Maps more clear, and found Apple Maps lacked Point of Interest information.
For Satellite view the found Apple Maps users are reporting that the Satellite View often displays images that seem to have been photoshopped or edited using Instagram and even worse will display bridges as being broken, locations that don’t exist and will quite often be extremely blurry.
For off-line use , of course Apple Maps does not have off-line navigation at all, while Nokia Maps excel at this.
For actual turn by turn navigation Apple Maps integrated very well with the iPhone, showing turn by turn directions on the lock screen for example but in terms of routing can occasionally take users through some weird, unlawful and downright crazy routes.
Lastly, in terms of experience, while the found the iOS experience good, they found Nokia’s much better.
Thai-based site MobileDista.net seems to have had had a lucky demo of the Nokia Lumia 920, and did not waste the opportunity to test both the supersensitive screen and the durability of the gorilla glass.
The video also gives a quick look at the OS, and also reveals a new feature – the ability to download word suggests for keyboards from Microsoft.
Also demonstrating the screen and NFC Bluetooth pairing:
After comparing Nokia Lumia 920′s OIS in video recording with Apple iPhone 5, HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III, Engadget just posted their comparison of low-light shootout among these flagship smartphones. As you expect, Lumia 920 emerged as a clear winner and iPhone 5 also yielded decent results emerging as a runner up.
Following the shootout inside the lab, Engadget took these devices to streets in the night time. Nokia Lumia 920 gave the best picture even in those conditions.
Engadget had an opportunity to interview Nokia’s CEO in his office at Nokia House today. They even did a liveblog in which Stephen Elop answered reader’s questions. Though he revealed nothing new you can read it here to know about why Lumia 920 doesn’t have an SD card slot, whether Cyan Lumia 920 coming or not, etc,. In the above interview, Stephen Elop discussed about the HTC’s latest Windows Phone 8 devices, the PureView technology in Lumia 920 and more.
The special thing about the whole interview is that the entire thing is captured using a Nokia Lumia 920 device. wmpoweruser
It seems in the East Microsoft and Nokia are rather more free about the access they allow to Nokia Lumia 920. wmpoweruser

AT&T announced that they are going to sell Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 on their network. And you will be able to get the Lumia 920 in-store in Red, Black and White, and through direct order (Online AT&T Website) in Yellow and Cyan. Yes, Cyan Lumia 920 will be available from launch. And the Lumia 820 will be available only in black because you will be able to buy the optional colour shells with wireless charging, etc,. wmpoweruser
Nokia recently published an infographic touting how great their maps were. They have now revealed part of the secret to their success: an army of drivers drawn from their own cars, but also UPS and FedEx trucks.
"While Google’s driven 5 million miles in Street View cars, UPS drives 3.3 billion miles a year," writes Alexis Madrigal from the Atlantic, which tackled the issue.
"We get over 12 billion probe data points per month coming into the organization," Nokia senior VP of Location Content Cliff Fox told Madrigal.
All this data helps Nokia identify changing roads and keep their maps up to date.
"To build it the first time is relatively the smaller task compared to maintaining that map," Fox said.
In 2012, they’ve used the GPS data they get to identify 65,000 road segments Madrigal explained.
Nokia Maps are already widely used in in-car navigation, and has been seeing increasing recognition with deals from Amazon and Oracle recently to adopt the maps for their services, and even Apple recommending it to their troubled customers.
We’ve seen the numerous “shake” tests of the Lumia 920’s PureView camera and this one is no different, (and we have to admit that the Nokia staff are getting very adept at phone jostling).
In the video above you can see the camera being shaking quite vigorously with the resulting image in the LCD also wiggling. But as soon as that shutter button is pressed halfway engaging the optical-image stabilization (OIS), the image steadies itself instantly.
The whole notion of wrapping the camera mechanism with mini-springs and managing to squeeze that into a phone is quite an achievement from Nokia. Of course, we can’t wait to get it in our hands to give it a go because that camera is the real deal. wpcentral
As you may have heard, AT&T today announced the Nokia Lumia 920 coming “in November” to the carrier. The phone will feature numerous colors including matte-black, yellow, red, white and of course cyan.
We know many of you have been wondering if the cyan is glossy or matte and the answer is the latter. Yup, it’s the same type of finish at the Lumia 800 and Lumia 900.
We’ll process some photos in a bit of our hands on but we will say this: the Lumia 920 did not at all feel too big or heavy. In fact, we barely noticed it. Our conclusion is that a lot of the concern over the size of the phone is completely unwarranted. In fact, with the smooth roundness of the back and the curved screen, we like it better than the current 900 design, which feels blocky by comparison.

We've heard rumors, speculation and murmurs about AT&T announcing the addition of the Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone to their lineup and now it's official. As an added bonus, AT&T also announced that the Lumia 820 will also be part of the wireless provider's Windows Phone lineup.
The Lumia 920 will be available in red, white, black, yellow and cyan (yes, cyan). The Lumia 820 will be available in black. Both the 920 and 820 will be 4G LTE compatible and are planned to be available in November.
Nokia had recently brought down the price of the Lumia 800, no doubt to help clear some inventory for the Windows Phone 8 launch. Seems like the price cut is doing wonders for sales in Finland where it’s purportedly selling out.
The Lumia 800 and 900 with the 100 Euro price cut certainly put them in the too good to miss bargain category. Could this price cut be just what Windows Phone needs to boost those numbers?
Those over at esphoneblog seem fairly certain that the price cut has done the trick and people are buying them in droves. The online retailer is currently showing them as being available again in 3-6 working days so on that front it’s correct. We’re less certain if it also means folks are storming the shops to get their hands on these polycarbonate wonders.
Our initial reaction to this was that the stock shortage might be down to dwindling supplies of the devices with Nokia running them down in the lead up to Windows Phone 8. Though if that were the case then a fairly swift re-supply wouldn’t be possible.
Here in the UK, its now possible to pick up a Lumia 800 for as little as £160.00 on a pay as you go tariff, that puts this once flagship device into the hands of so many more potential buyers. The continued lowering of the price point on these handsets should mean more are able to jump on board and continue to swell the user base of Windows Phone.
Rogers have now confirmed this in a press release, adding that the handset is expected to arrive in November.
The handset will be running on their LTE network, the largest in the country.
"Rogers’ decision to offer the Nokia Lumia 920 in Canada is another example of the forward momentum behind our Lumia devices as well as the broader Windows ecosystem," said Don Leeke, Canada General Manager, Nokia.
The announcement follows AT&T yesterday confirming their own release of the Nokia Lumia 920. wmpoweruser
This of course made Telus and Bell users rather unhappy, but the following news might turn those frowns upside down.
Reader James spoke to a Roger’s representative and was informed that the exclusivity period was only one month.
Hopefully this is the case, and this pattern is replicated elsewhere the handset is exclusive also, and we can see Windows Phone fans on other carriers also enjoy the best Windows Phone 8 handset announced so far. wmpoweruser
It looks like Nokia got a new talent agent because it has once again seen one of its phones get a walk-on role on a TV show. This time around, it's the cyan Lumia 800 in the BBC series Cuckoo, starring Saturday Night Live alum, Andy Samberg. Not only was it featured on the show, but it also looks to have gotten it's very own close-up.
We also just saw what looks to be a dressed-up Lumia 900 appear on ABC comedy The Neighbors. But it's not just the small screen. A Lumia 710 (?) is shown in the trailer for a movie called The Canyons, due out in 2013, as well as a strange, drab-green Lumia 800 in sneak peek of the upcoming Hugh Jackman move The Wolverine.
With the new batch of Windows Phone 8 Lumias due out soon, we expect the trend to continue.

We were all impressed with how the Nokia Lumia 900 tackled those sunny days by using ClearBlack Technology. Technology that Nokia has worked to improve and will give the Lumia 920's screen better outdoor performance.
Part of ClearBlack's advantage in outdoor use is the reduction in screen reflections. Reflections that hinder performance on those bright sunny days. Building on the ClearBlack technology, Nokia has added two improvements into the mix that will improve the screen's performance. Nokia has added a high brightness mode which increases the screen brightness by 20%. This mode kicks in only in extreme bright conditions to help make things viewable.
There is also a Sunlight Readability Enhancement Algorithm. This will improve the screen's ability to tune the display content on the run to make details much clearer and crisper in direct sunlight.
As we all have come to learn, the brighter the screen the higher the power consumption. This shouldn't be an issue (or as much of an issue) with the Lumia 920. Senior Technology Manager for Nokia, Jussi Ropo, explains
“The high brightness mode is driving the LED with a higher current and producing 20 per cent more brightness, which means that the backlight is also consuming 20 per cent more power. On the other hand, due to low reflectance of the optical stack, our estimate is that typically only 5-10 per cent of the time will you be in extremely bright conditions where you will need this high brightness mode. So in total, it will not be that heavy on the battery.”
You will still have the option to set your screen brightness manually but with the 920 the automatic setting will adjust things accordingly. Add the high brightness mode, the new algorithm, and improved ClearBlack Technology and the 920 should be able to tackle everything from those bright sunny days to dimly lit rooms without skipping a beat. wpcentral

Microsoft made a big deal the new style ads in Windows 8 apps. They seems to have taken advantage of the bigger canvas offered by Windows 8 themselves to promote the Nokia Lumia Windows 8 phones. wmpoweruser
We told you that you have to get used to seeing these side-by-side videos of the Nokia Lumia 920’s video camera in action. That’s because optical image stabilization in a smartphone is kind of a big deal for camera technology—it’s really a big step forward and one of the first real innovations since BSI hit the scene.
The video above, hailing from Russia we presume, shows the Lumia 920 mounted to the inside windshield of a car as it drives over train tracks and some bumpy terrain. It’s compared to…well, we’re not sure, as our Cyrillic translator is a bit off today. But the point should be clear that when OIS is used for video, it actually makes a huge difference in terms of quality. wpcentral
A ThinkEquity survey of 100 US-based IT managers, including CIOs, technology vice presidents and IT directors, from a variety of industries, found nearly half of IT managers said that they plan to standardize their company’s mobile platform on devices running Microsoft operating systems, including smartphone OSes Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8 and tablet OS Windows RT,
More than 75 percent of the respondents worked for companies with more than 500 employees. wmpoweruser
More good news for Nokia, following their pre-orders being sold out in Italy, is that pre-orders for the Nokia Lumia 920 has jumped to the top of PhoneHouse’ France’s top 50 list from the 8th –14th October.
The handset is retailing for 649.90 euros. wmpoweruser
The first pics of Lumia 920T for China Mobile (The biggest operator in the world, with about 660 million subscribers, about 70% of all subscribers in China), may arrive in November.
WindowsPhoneMania.pl managed to get their hands on the Nokia Lumia 920 service manual, and I think finally explained why the handset is heavy and relatively thick, by modern standards.
The wireless charging coil reveals itself to be rather chunky, and is likely not a very light element either.
It does raise the question if the standard addition of the feature is worth the weight and size premium. wpcentral
That is why the Lumia 920 is a bit thicker and heavier.
It had been feared that the Nokia Lumia 920 would be exclusive to Vodafone in Germany, but it seems Nokia itself is now working to get their handset in the hands of buyers, no matter what carrier they are on.
On their website they are now offering pre-orders on Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2 and e-plus, via Noovi, which is their exclusive Nokia shop.
The handset is from free on some contracts, so hop on over to Nokia’s site here for a peruse.
Nokia will be unveiling both the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 Windows Phones in Turkey, a market that has seen little marketing carried out by Microsoft and Nokia. According to promotion material, Nokia will be holding a launch event in Turkey on November 21st, which will see both Lumias launched.
While Windows Phone has literally been absent in Turkey, it's good news to hear Nokia is preparing to tap into the market and offer strong alternatives to both the iPhone and Android handsets. wpcentral
Nokia has announced on its South African blog that the Lumia 920 will indeed be heading to the country. Arriving in November, the Nokia flagship Windows Phone will be available to platform enthusiasts to take full advantage of what the manufacturer can offer with the next version of Microsoft's mobile operating system.
So where will the Lumia 920 be stocked? It'll land at both MTN and Vodacom stores, with the Lumia 820 reportedly following soon after. wpcentral
Nokia has announced the Lumia 510 in a press release, distributed this morning. The device sports Windows Phone 7.5, and will be marketed on the success of the Lumia 610. Carrying on Nokia's commitment to low-level and 'dumb phone' markets, the company expects to increase its revenue from said sources.
It's clear from the product page the Lumia 510 will be available in five colours that are also used in Nokia's high-end Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices - black, cyan, red, white and yellow. We previously touched on the new device earlier this month when it was spotted in the wild with pricing and accurate specifications leaked.
Nokia's Jo Harlow had the following to comment on the Lumia 510:
"With the Nokia Lumia 510 we continue to meet our commitment to bring Windows Phone to new, lower price points. People who use Windows Phone quickly realize how much more intuitive it is than other smartphone platforms, and Nokia Lumia is the best embodiment of the Windows Phone experience. With the Nokia Lumia 510 we're looking forward to welcoming more people into the Windows Phone experience."
The full specification readout from Nokia includes a 4-inch WVGA 800x480 screen, 1300 mAh battery, 5MP camera, 256MB RAM, and 4GB storage. Not bad for a low-level Windows Phone. Retail price is expected to be around $199. As well as the less advanced specifications and attractive price, the Lumia 510 provides consumers free access to the array of Nokia apps and services. wpcentral
The handset will be updated to WP 7.8
We’re still not sure what is going on with Best Buy and their preorder for the AT&T Nokia Lumia 920—for instance, why do they have it and not even AT&T? Nor why was the Lumia 920 pulled (and yet other links still worked).
Regardless, if you do use those inks for Best Buy and the Lumia 920, you’ll see that all five colors are now listed as “sold out online”
Is that because Best Buy had only 200 devices? Is it another error? Or maybe, just maybe there is a lot of demand for this phone. Obviously there are lots of questions and seeing as we don’t know how many Lumia 920s Best Buy had allocated, it is hard to know if they really sold out or they’re just suspending preorders due to a glitch. We’ll keep you posted.

The Nokia Lumia 900 has been spotted in the latest season of Homeland, a popular television show currently being aired on Showtime in the states as well as Channel 4 in the UK. It's in its second season and is packed full of action and storyline twists to keep viewers praying for more while enjoying the ride.
As seen in the image montage above, we have Roya Hammad (portrayed by Zuleikha Robinson) making good use of a white Lumia 900. Sure, it's not the Windows Phone 8 Lumia 920 we're all eager to get our mucky paws on, but hey ... advertising and brand awareness is advertising and brand awareness. We've previously covered the Lumia 800 being featured in BBC series Cuckoo, as well as an unbranded device used in a BetVictor advertisement. wpcentral
Rogers Canada officially announced. The reservation system is only for existing Rogers customers and is a way to hold one of the new Windows Phones once they become available. Which is listed as "in the coming weeks".

Jessica Alba can be seen above sitting next to Sigourney Weaver taking pictures on her Ivory White Nokia Lumia 920 at ‘Dior’s Show’ in Paris.
Even though the catwalk is the focus of the show, the focus of this camera man is Jessica and that wonderfully positioned 920.
